Because we need more lumber, we plant more conifers. The UK is currently the second-largest importer of timber behind China, importing 80% of what we use. To construct homes and other structures, to make furniture, to create pallets for the delivery of food and medicines, and for a variety of other uses, the nation needs a supply of lumber that has been responsibly harvested. Unlike most broadleaves, conifer trees develop far more quickly. Conifer harvesting could begin in 40 to 50 years. An oak tree is just getting started at that age.

Due to the increasing demand for lumber, there's a rise in conifer planting. The UK stands as the second-largest timber importer globally, following China, importing 80% of its total usage. The nation relies on a responsibly harvested lumber supply for building homes, structures, crafting furniture, producing pallets for food and medicine delivery, and various other purposes. Unlike broadleaves, conifer trees grow much faster, allowing harvesting to commence in 40 to 50 years, whereas an oak tree is still in its early stages at that age.

As the demand for lumber continues to surge, there's been a corresponding increase in conifer planting. The UK ranks as the world's second-largest timber importer after China, importing 80% of its total usage. The country depends on responsibly harvested lumber for constructing homes, buildings, crafting furniture, producing pallets for food and medicine delivery, and numerous other purposes. Unlike broadleaves, conifer trees grow at a much faster rate, enabling harvesting to begin within 40 to 50 years, while an oak tree is still in its early stages at that age.
